The Slovenian Culture and Information Centre in Austria (SKICA) was established in Vienna in 2011 as a dislocated unit of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Vienna. Based at the Student Residence and hotel Korotan, the centre intends to integrate Slovene creativity in the field of arts and culture as well as science and research into a cultural milieu of the city of Vienna and broader. SKICA aims to become a model for the future network of Slovene culture and information centres abroad.
Mission and objectives
The Slovenian Culture and Information Centre in Vienna was established by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture: the purpose of the joint venture is to create a synergy among the Slovene institutions and organisations in Vienna in order to become a central forum and a representative of Slovene cultural, education, and science activities in Austria. Specifically, the project endeavours to promote a culture and art programme as well as create a cultural education programme for children and youth; establish a library and a reading room; all while focusing on building a multidisciplinary approach from all study fields and art disciplines.
One of the central objectives of the centre is the establishment of a residence for artists, guests and scientists in Vienna, similar to the artist-in-residence programme conducted in Berlin, New York and London by the Slovene Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.
